Less than two weeks until 2017. It’s almost one month to the day of the Inaguration of Donald Trump. Many people keep wondering how did this happen, including myself. Everything I read leading up to the election had Hillary strongly leading and then out of nowhere November 8th Trump was taking states like it was candy from a baby.
Now I am looking forward to 2017 for my own goals but also see it as a year that we can unite and work together to resolve whatever divisions there may be in our factured society. I hear some of you saying “Librals suck.” or “Conservatives are just rednecks who hate POCs and the LGBT community.” I get it some people have drawn their line in the sand and won’t budge to understand or even listen to the counter arguments. I am a big believer in the fact that i son’t know everything, but I do know that no one does. I better not get a smart aleck email saying Stephen Hawking does because if he did then he would be walking and talking with out the aid of a machine.
Anyways, I am from Texas, I am a veteran, I have two masters degrees (History and Business), I have a family, I attend a Christian church and I am a comedian. I have prejudices and preconcived ideas just like everyone else. That being said I never want my rights to trump (no pun intended) anyone elses. I also don’t want anyone’s rights to trump my own. We all have to live on this planet, in this country and in these states and cities together. We have to find common ground, we have to work from the ground up becuase to be honest with you I don’t believe government or the media has our best at heart. They thrive off our collective opposition to each other. If we lived the golden rule of kindergarten of being kind to each other then we wouldn’t need police or military.
I don’t have the answers so I will just tell you what i tell my daughters, “Everyone should be treated how you want to be treated. Respect is earned not given, and no one has the right to make you feel less about yourself.”
I don’t know if that will make the world a better place but I hope that someday we will all be able to live in harmony.
